Insulin Production in the Pancreas
The insulin-producing cells in the pancreas are called beta cells. The pancreas then releases insulin into the bloodstream, which carries it to all the cells in the body. The healthy pancreas always produces a regular amount of insulin for use by the body cells, but it produces more insulin in response to a meal to normalize blood sugar levels.
